Royal Caribbean International was the first pure-bred caribbean cruise line. Beyond being created strictly as a caribbean cruise line, it was also the first line to scratch-build her fleet, rather than follow the established habit of converting older ships to passenger vessels, or buying old ships from other lines.

This history was begun as part of my web project Royal Caribbeanfan.com. It is not intended to be a comprehensive history of Royal Caribbean, but does seek to lend some detail to the average readers knowledge of the cruise line. The author undertook this project in the belief that knowing more about one's cruise vacation adds to the quality of the experience.
