Royal Caribbean is moving the Monarch of the Seas to Port Canaveral in October 2008. As of right now they say they have no plans to replace the Monarch in Los Angles for the 3 and 4 day cruises to San Diego, Catalina and Ensenada, Mexico.
The Monarch will be replacing the Sovereign of the Seas which is being taken to Spain for the new cruise Company Royal Caribbean bought over there.

So book the 3 & 4 day cruises on the Monarch out of Los Angles before it's too late.

Yes Sovereign will join Empress under Pulmantur. They have many old ships. My friend in LA has become very attached to Monarch and did a 3 nighter on her so will be sad to see her go.

October 17th, 2008 The Monarch will leave Los Angles for the trip through the Panama Canal. If no one has been through the canal it is quite a trip. We went through this year on the Serende and was so impressed we booked the trip on the Monarch next year. The price for the Monarch is pretty good for a Canal crossing. $1000 p/person for an inside for 16 day cruise.

By modern standards, she is a small ship for a long cruise, at least cabin wise.

I'm looking at a poster I have above the computer center, which was created for the Port of Miami's centennial. It has a Sovereign class, and two Voyagers ahead of her. Staggering to see how much smaller it is compared to the rest.
