Royal Caribbean News

According to industry experts, the amount of people taking cruises is expected to double over the next ten years with companies having to plan well ahead to keep up with demand. As any person will know who takes cruises, traveling on a modern cruise liner is like a city with enough facilities to keep even the most demanding client entertained.

As ships diversify and provide an ever increasing choice of facilities, it also needs to keep up with the high levels of staffing that clients expect. As an example, Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas employs 2,800 staff from 80 different countries. The staff deal with everything from waiting and cleaning to art auctioneers, horticulturalists, technicians and divers.

The roles of staff generally fall into two areas, those who face the passengers and those that deal with the behind the scenes technical aspects of running a ship the size of Allure of the Seas.

The customer facing positions include housekeeping, kitchen staff, shop staff and those manning the casino’s and gyms. Entertainment staff are also in demand such as dancers, singers and ice skaters.

The administration side of running the ship is covered by the purser’s department, this includes allocating cabins, reception areas, finances and organizing trips.

Technical staff are required for the deck, engine and electrical departments and are in charge of ships safety.

Royal Caribbean are actively employing staff on an almost constant basis and details can be found on their web site. The future looks bright for those people who want to get paid and cruise at the same time.
